I don’t want to get into a habit of sharing every video that I come across (that’s what Facebook is for apparently), but this one really is worth it. It’s already done the social media rounds, but I thought I’d share in case it got missed.
Harrison Ford has always narked me in interviews with his mumbling, humourless monosyllabic answers and apparent resentment at having to talk about Star Wars (you know, the film that made him a star and gave him a career). And he seems to be following his usual curmudgeonly interview trend in this video – and then it all changes.
Not only is he genuinely funny throughout, but his acting is the best it’s been in decades (honestly – I think the last time I think he was effective in anything was Clear And Present Danger, which was 1994). I’m still anxious about the idea of him starring in the new films along with Fisher and the homeless-looking Hamill, but this video at least reminded me of how much I used to like him. Despite being psychologically scarred by the prequels, I still hold out hope that Abrams can resuscitate Star Wars and make a genuinely entertaining movie – but only just.
